West Layton Marsh Restoration

Purpose: Address the loss of critical wetland habitat and the degradation of hydrologic connection to Great Salt Lake by installing water control structures and improving existing levees and water conveyance ditches.

Benefits: This project will improve water quality and quantity throughout the 4,531-acres of the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve and within the greater Great Salt Lake ecosystem. For wildlife, including migratory birds, the projects will restore and expand critical habitat. Finally, these projects will provide TNC preserve managers with another important method to control water releases directly to Great Salt Lake, helping to reduce Phragmites propagation and increase Lake flows.

Timeline: Estimated date of completion is May 2025.
