Bypass Canal: Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area

Purpose: Replacing all the aging and ineffective water control structures on the Bypass Canal. This project will also install water monitoring equipment on the outflow of the bypass canal onto the Farmington Arm to effectively measure inflows to Great Salt Lake.

Benefits: Upgrading this system improves the conveyance of water from the WMA to the Farmington Arm of Great Salt Lake, one of the most desiccated regions of Great Salt Lake. In total, 964 acres of critical palustrine emergent wetlands and 1,200 acres of un-impounded wetlands north of the WMA levees are expected to benefit from this project directly. Replacing critical water management infrastructure on the Jordan River watershed helps ensure the long-term ecological resiliency of Great Salt Lake.

Timeline: Construction start date estimated Spring 2025
