Monitoring Flows from Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge to Great Salt Lake

Purpose: Three project components—six synoptic flow measurement events, installing a new gage near the terminus of Bear River, and installing outflow monitoring gages along three newly retrofitted structures on “D-Line” dike—to  enhance monitoring and quantification of Bear River inflows into the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and into Great Salt Lake.

Benefits: This project will increase the accuracy of monitoring of the Bear River inflows quantifying how much water from Bear River flows into Great Salt Lake, enabling water going to Great Salt Lake via water leasing, ensuring the Refuge receives its water right in priority, and assist with the monitoring of water entering Willard Spur Wetland Management Area.

Timeline: Completion by end of 2025.
